Well done to our young Lancashire team who competed in the RIO tournament 2026 at the Railway Institute, York this weekend
Team manager, Tony Kelly, said:
"Despite playing some very close matches, many of them going to 3 games, the team ended day 1 without an overall win.
Day 2 started with a fierce match against Warwickshire where 4 of the ties again went to 3 - unfortunately all against us.
In the final match against Cheshire, playing for 7th/8th position, the team fought hard and long.
The match was drawn 6 games all, with 3 girls doubles to play. Despite losing the first game, the girls came through to win the last two games, resulting in victory against Cheshire.
I could not be prouder of each and every one of the young players and would like to thank them for their commitment and efforts this weekend."
Many thanks to the parents and supporters of the RIO team, also to the organisers of the tournament - and don't they look smart in their new team shirts courtesy of Smash Racquet Pro!
